Many after-market (non-Motorola) RIBs use different connectors on the RIB-to-computer cable or provide a standard 9-pin to 9-pin cable. The RIB and its cables, or a functionally equivalent, purpose-built, circuit is a necessary component of the Motorola radio programming environment. Some kind of interface between the radio and the PC is necessary. Programming / Service software for the Motorola Radius GM300 It has been pointed out to me that this software only works with the GM300 so I have adjusted the page. After searching for the genuine Motorola program I came across Motorola Radius GM300 Radio Doctor.

After searching for the genuine Motorola program I came across Motorola Radius GM300 Radio Doctor. This program runs fine under Windows XP and will do all the functions that the genuine Motorola radio service software does. Here is the main screen.

You will also need a simple interface to connect the radio to your PC. You can make your own or just search on Ebay for 'GM300 programming' or make programming interface from below 'at your own risk'
GM300 programming connection When looking at the radio here are the numbers
As you can see to make the programming interface for your GM300 is very basic.
Connection your Motorola GM300 for Echolink or IRLP etc.
If you want to use the COS/COR output from your GM300 the COS/COR on pin 8 is (active low). Many interfaces need a COS/COR input that is (active high) at 2 to 5vdc. You can make up a circuit to convert the output from pin 8 or take a COS/COR output from inside the radio that will give you a (active high) output. You will need to access the logic board on the underside of the radio. Remove the front of radio and the bottom cover and lift off the RF shield. See photo below.
If you use thin wire you will be able to feed this out the edge of the 16 way connector. I tied a knot round the connector on the board to stop it being pulled off the board. Take care not to short this COS/COR out because it will damage the radio.

General Information
The Alpha series radios can be programmed from the front panel (selected models) or via Customer Programming Software (CPS). Commander models are pre- programmed at the factory and no field programming is required.
The pinout of the programming cable for use with the CPS is available here.
The part number for the CPS is PMVN4059/4061 for disks/CD respectively.
Cloning
These radios support cloning parameters between a master and slave radio.
Cloning only transfers the user's settings from the master radio to the slave. Things like tuning values, serial number, etc. are not changed.
To clone a master radio to a slave (target), perform the following:
- Make sure both radios are off
- Connect the cloning cable between the two radios through the programming port
- Turn on the slave radio
- Press and hold the 'A' button on the master radio and turn it on
- The master radio will display CLONE if cloning can proceed, otherwise an error will be displayed
- The slave radio will display PROG while it is being programmed
- When cloning is complete, the master radio will display END and the slave radio will reset automatically
- Disconnect the radios from the cloning cable
Error Codes
The following error codes may be displayed while cloning:
Error Message | Description |
TIME OUT | Data communications time out. Please ensure that the slave radio is switched on and the cloning cable is properly connected. |
BCC ERR | Data communications checksum error. |
TYPE ERR | Mismatch in model numbers. Please ensure that the master and slave radios are of the same model number. |
CMD ERR | Data communications command error. |
Front Panel Programming
To program the radio through the front panel, you must enter Programming Mode while in Dealer Configuration. This configuration/mode allows you to edit a number of features to enhance the use of this radio. Some Alpha Series radios cannot enable Dealer Configuration, you will have to use the CPS to program these radios.
The radio is shipped from the factory in User Configuration. In this mode, only a limited number of features can be accessed by the user. Channels and other radio settings can only be changed when the radio is in Dealer Configuration.
To switch from User Configuration to Dealer Configuration, do the following: Buck and butler.
- Turn off the radio
- Press and hold PTT, MON, + while turning the radio on
- The LCD should display PRO-CLR
- To confirm switching to Dealer Configuration, press PTT, to cancel press any other key
- Turn off the radio. It will now operate in Dealer Configuration.
To switch from Dealer Configuration to User Configuration, do the following:
- Turn off the radio
- Press and hold PTT, MON, + while turning the radio on
- The LCD should display PROTECT
- To confirm switching to User Configuration, press PTT, to cancel press any other key
- Turn off the radio. It will now operate in User Configuration.
To enter Programming Mode, ensure the radio is turned off, then hold the MON button while turning the radio on. A ring tone should be heard as the radio powers on in Programming Mode. Line 6 variax serial number lookup.
To exit Programming Mode, turn the radio off.

Performing a factory reset will erase certain user programmable parameters in the radio and restore them to factory default. This will clear all memory channels, phone numbers, and restores the default settings of RW parameters.
To perform the reset, do the following:
- Ensure the radio is operating in Dealer Programming Mode
- Press and hold - and MON at the same time while turning on the radio
- The radio should display INIT OK
- Press the PTT to confirm, or turn off the radio to exit
When the factory reset is in progress, the LCD will display INIT Mac os x yosemite iso for vmware. for one second. When the reset is completed, the radio will turn itself off and back on again. The reset is now complete.
